England?s bowling coach wants consistency from Stuart Broad ? Cricket News?
Delighted with the performance of Stuart Broad in the first Test of the two-match series against New Zealand at the Lord?s, the England bowling coach, David Saker, has hailed the right-arm seamer but mentioned that he needs to be a lot more consistent with his performances.
Needing 239 runs to win the opening fixture, New Zealand looked favourites to take a lead in the series. However, the lanky pacer rose to the occasion and grabbed seven wickets in the Black Caps? second innings to seal a handsome victory for the home side. The cricketer from Nottingham was also named as the Player of the Match for his outstanding effort.
Broad was immensely criticised last year after his poor performance in two Test matches in India, failing to pick up a single wicket. The 26-year-old cricketer however, answered his critics in the best possible manner in the Lord?s Test and looked in great form.
The English bowling coach is of the opinion that Broad is one of the most threatening bowlers of the world when he is at the peak of his game. Saker rates the seamer?s spell on the fourth day of the Test as one of the best he has witnessed.
?When he gets everything right, there aren't many better in the world,? Saker said. ?We'll be talking about that spell for a long time. It's as good a spell as you'll ever see anywhere. He has days where he just tears teams apart and he did it again there.?
Saker believes Broad will have to show more consistency at the ultimate level of the sport in order to become a great bowler.
The mentor added, ?The one thing that stands out from the greats to the very good is the greats are consistent. Stuart still has things to learn about bowling. But in my book he's still getting better every time and he's learning a lot from having some down times.?
Broad already has almost 400 wickets in international cricket and taking his age and fitness into account, the right-armer is set for many more in the years to come.?
