ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - "The Fight to Get Rid of Larry" was a benefit event held Sunday for a member of the Rome Theater community.

Matt Pitcher found out he had a brain tumor this past fall. Matt is a husband and a father of two young children and has been active in the theater for many years.

Sunday, the community is rallying behind him as he fights the aggressive brain tumor, that he calls Larry. Matt's cousin Jamie Finster explained saying, "Larry is the name for Matt's tumor. When he was first diagnosed, they kept referring to it as an it or as a tumor. Matt didn't like that, he didn't like the description so he said, 'Let's just give it a name. Let's call it Larry.' So we all stuck with that. We're referring to the tumor as Larry and Larry is going to be no more."

There are also Team Matt bracelets. So far, 500 of them have been sold.
